Head-to-head: the match result
AFL betting markets ask different questions about the same match. A team can win the game while a bet on its line loses. Start by reading exactly what the market measures.
Head-to-head is about the match winner under the operator’s settlement rules. Check how a draw is handled and whether extra time is included. Do not assume that regular-season matches and finals use identical terms.
Line betting: a points handicap
A line adjusts each team’s final score by a stated handicap. For example, a team at −15.5 must win by at least 16 points for that selection to win. The opposing team at +15.5 can win the match or lose by up to 15 points and still cover its line.
The half point prevents a tie against that particular handicap because AFL scores are whole numbers. Whole-number lines can produce a tie against the line; check how the operator settles it.
Totals: combined points
A match total concerns the points scored by both teams together. With a line of 165.5, “over” requires a combined score of 166 or more, while “under” requires 165 or fewer. It does not matter which team wins.
A team total counts only one team’s points. A quarter total counts the specified period. Those are different markets even if they appear next to the match total.
Player markets and same-game multis
Player markets can cover goals, disposals or other statistics. Read the threshold, participation requirements and settlement source. A late withdrawal, substitute appearance or stat correction may be treated differently across operators and markets.
A same-game multi combines selections from one match. Normally each active leg must win, but voided legs and special market rules can change settlement. Adding legs makes the bet more restrictive; a larger displayed return does not make it better value or more likely to win.

These examples explain market mechanics, not a winning strategy. No team, player or multi is a guaranteed result. Set a spending limit and keep gambling separate from money needed for bills.
